Why go there

Gosford is known for its splendid natural setting, tourist attractions and thriving business industries.

A mild climate, ocean beaches, bushland and forests as well as its proximity to Sydney and Newcastle have made Gosford a popular holiday destination and prosperous business centre.

History

The Guringgai Aboriginal people originally occupied the land around Gosford. The first European explorers arrived in 1788, and land grants were made from 1811.

A private township became established in the 1830s. By 1888 the completion of the Sydney to Newcastle railway line attracted tourists, and industries developed.

From the 1960s Gosford has developed as a residential and tourist centre.
