There are many wonderful places to go horse riding in New South Wales, but there are two quintessential rides that touch on what makes this nation what it is.
The first reflects Australia’s love of the ‘larrikin’ - a sense of boisterous humour and enjoyment. This is nicely reflected in the Pub Crawl by Horseback.
The journey begins at Bullock Mountain Homestead in Glen Innes, where you meet a horse named either ‘Tequilla’, ‘Stout’, ‘Hahn’ or ‘Whiskey’. The pub-crawling Bushranger Ride departs next morning.
From then on its four days of riding through the magnificent New England High Ranges.
The second ride is through the snow gums and ridges of the Snowy Mountains, the place of legends, and the inspiration for the famous poem – the Man from Snowy River.
Explore the breathtaking scenery of the Kosciuzsko National Park, with treks lasting up to six days and evenings spent around the campfire.
Closer to Sydney is Australia’s largest horse riding centre, Glenworth Valley, on The Central Coast. You can explore around 3,000 lush green acres on your own or with a guide.
More guided trail rides are available in the Megalong Valley in the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains, a two-hour-drive west of Sydney.
