By bike

Fast facts

  • Get a more intimate view of the city and countryside by getting on your bike
  • Go cycling in Sydney, Snowy Mountains, the Blue Mountains, the Hunter Valley or Mudgee

Why go there

Touring by bicycle means you can do things at a more leisurely pace, and really feel part of the scenery you are passing through.

Take the Snowy Mountains for instance. With your feet on the peddles you can dawdle or dash through the crisp mountain air, past icy streams and lakes, and bushland teeming with birds and animals.
Starting out from Jindabyne you could tackle the 40-kilometre up-hill stretch to Charlotte Pass, or ride a similar distance to the pretty Snowy Mountains ski resort of Thredbo. The trip back down is fast and exhilarating!

Another heart-pumping option is Thredbo’s Cannonball Run. In the summer months you can take the high-speed chairlift up to Eagles Nest and then bolt down the winter ski slopes at breakneck speed.
The World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains offer some fabulous cycle trips with incredible views of cliffs, gorges and rainforests. Cycle along Katoomba’s Cliff Drive, known for stunning lookouts over the Jamison Valley and views of the Three Sisters rock formation.

Tour the verdant vineyard regions of the Hunter Valley and Mudgee by bike. Peddle up to a cellar door, taste a few wines, enjoy lunch and then head off for a leisurely ride.

For a different view of Sydney, try a cycling tour. See all the Sydney landmarks and parklands, with the added bonus of a pub stop along the way.
